Artist in Residence

At the Centre we regularly engage the talents of professional artists as an ‘Artist in residence’ following the example of the Northern Italian town of Reggio Emilia where all pre-schools work with and artist.

We have worked with Penny Wilson, who made a magnificent Chinese dragon, which we use, every Chinese New Year, to head our procession.

Jean Hobson has worked on many projects with us. The most celebrated being a mosaic panel (below), which has children’s drawings of themselves, depicted in mosaics, hence the title ‘A Vision of Self’. This panel won a highly commended award in the national ‘Art Works’ competition. Jean has worked more recently with the Out of School Club children on a project of plaster masks entitled ‘Friends’.

Our aim when working with artists is to produce artwork which is an accurate reflection of early childhood art, to learn new skills and creativity from an artist and to exhibit the work to demonstrate the value and importance we place on pure child art.
