Community

The centre involves itself in many local community projects and often starts them. Below you can see a list the the various community projects that the Gamesley Early Excellence Centre are involved in:

  • Gamesley Art Project:
    • This takes place in February of each year in the Geoffrey Allen Community Centre which is adjacent to the Early Excellence Centre. Invitations are sent out to all schools, adult centres and artists to take part in exhibiting art works with Gamesley as the subject. There are winners and runners up in four age group categories. Funding for the project comes from the Gamesley-on-the-go SRB project and some funding from the centre.
    • This year was the first year we ran the exhibition and it was a great success with over 100 entrants.
    • The aim of the project is to celebrate the beauty of the surrounding area through artistic representation and to bring art into Gamesley.
  • Doorstep Greens Project:
    • This is a community project to develop the estate's surrounding green areas into recreational areas for community use. The Centre is involved with the committee and represents the children’s use of the recreational areas.
  • Gamesley Residents Association:
    • We attend the regular meeting of the Gamesley Residents Association which meet once per month to discuss estate issues e.g. celebration days, police presence, projects, health initiatives, Gamesley-on-the-Go etc.
  • Gamesley Church and Jericho Project:
    • We are members of the Geoffrey Allen Church and County Centre committee. This is a group which meets once per three months to discuss the use of the community centre. As we are the main users of the centre for our out-of-school club, childminders support group and adult education classes we have an important part to play on this committee. The Jericho project is a church led group which organises a community café and food co-op in Gamesley.
  • Gamesley-on-the-Go:
    • This is a community project which is funded by the lottery and the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) with a strong health emphasis. We have been fortunate enough to be successful in gaining funding from this budget to run the Gamesley Art project and to develop our outside play areas.
  • Citizens Advice Bureau:
    • The citizens advice bureau is available from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Tuesday afternoons in the community room.
  • Luncheon Club:
    • Every Tuesday, all year round we offer a luncheon club for senior citizens in the hall of the community centre. Our kitchen staff provide a two course lunch for approximately 15 people from 11.30am to 1pm.
