Health

We have many links with the local Health Authorities, who may work with children and adults who attend the Centre.

  • Children:
    • We have regular visits from the speech therapist who takes referrals from ourselves and from parents. She works with the staff member responsible for the Derbyshire Language Scheme in order to fully maximise speech therapy work undertaken.
    • If we have children with disabilities we work with the occupational therapist and the physiotherapist on a regular basis in each individual case.
    • If we are concerned about a child’s development we work with the health service in referring a child to Rowan House assessment unit in Hyde, Cheshire. We then attend the case conferences to contribute to how we might help a child at the Centre when a diagnosis has been made.
    • We have annual visits from the community dentist who examines every child’s teeth and refers children who need treatment.
  • Adults:
    • The community dietician organises a course for parents every year – ‘Healthy Eating on a Budget’.
    • We are working with the Gamesley-on-the Go Health worker with local initiatives to improve the health of the Gamesley community.
We are also part of the teenage parenting strategy led by the EYDCP.
